2.3 trillion SMS messages.

This is the amount of messages Gartner predicts will be sent worldwide in 2008, meaning an increase of 19.6% from the total of 2007 being 1.9 trillion messages. This boom of message traffic from handsets indicate that the mobile is being more and more accepted as a consumption point for consumer brands. In a forecast from Gartner the volume of text messages sent in North America alone in 2008 will reach 301 billion where as 2007 was 'only' 189 billion.

A look on the text messages from a business perspective reveals a mobile messaging revenue increase across major markets from $52 billion in 2007 to an expected $60.2 billion in 2007, being an increase of 15.7.

These numbers clearly show the worldwide popularity of the posibilites of the mobile phone and that 2008 could very well be - as many already consider - the year of the cellphone
